Truck crash leads to Icee roads
Monday, Aug. 28, 2000 | 9:35 a.m.
The Nevada Highway Patrol said the truck driven by John Basques of Sacramento, Calif., lost its brakes while coming down U.S. Highway 50 from Lake Tahoe and flipped three times.
Basques was taken to Washoe Medical Center in Reno, where he was listed in fair condition with head injuries and a punctured lung.
NHP troopers said they were unsure how many gallons of syrup spilled, but it was a substantial amount. Boxes of Icee cups, lids and straws were strewn over the median.
The truck came speeding through Highway 50's intersection with U.S. Highway 395 and struck a pole, causing the truck to roll.
