State jobless rate 3.5 percent in July, just under 1 million working

A Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation report Monday notes the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, unchanged from June, compares with a national July rate of 4 percent and a 5 percent rate in neighboring California.

July unemployment in the metropolitan Las Vegas area was 4.2 percent, down from 4.3 percent in June. In the Reno area, the rate was 2.6 percent in July, down from 2.8 percent a month earlier.

July unemployment was 3.8 percent in the Elko-Eureka areas and 3.9 percent in Carson-Douglas-Lyon-Storey areas.

Month-to-month unemployment comparisons weren't available for other Nevada counties.

Statewide, mining was steady between June and July; finance-insurance-real estate jobs were down 100; manufacturing was up 300; transportation-utilities was up 800; trade was up 1,400; the casino-related service industry was up 3,700; and government hiring was down 2,400.
