Mortreasia J. Bailey, 72, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 1, 1927, in West Virginia. A resident for 27 years, she was a cashier at Walgreen's.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley C.; two sons, Dan Bailey and Mike Bailey, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Bobby Glass of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Virginia Margaret and Zona Marie, both of North Carolina; three grandsons and one great-grandson.
Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.
Bruce E. Bates
Bruce E. Bates, 67, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born June 15, 1933, in Englewood, Calif. A resident for several years, he was a retired medical examiner for the coroner's office, a member of Masonic Daylite Lodge 44 and Scottish Rite Bodies and Zelzah Shrine Temple in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce E.; one daughter, Terri Muttart, and one son, Rusty Muttart, both of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.
Services were scheduled at 2 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.
The family suggests donations to Shriners Children's Hospital, Zelzah Shrine Temple, 2222 W. Mesquite Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89106.
Ronald Anthony Beland
Ronald Anthony Beland, 63, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. He was born Jan. 24, 1937, in Worcester, Mass. A resident for many years, he was a laborer in the construction industry and a Navy veteran.
He is survived by one son, Brian Beland of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Graveside services were scheduled at 10:30 a.m. today in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.
Charles William Bishop
Charles William Bishop, 53, of Las Vegas and Pahrump died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 9, 1946, in Seattle. A resident for eight years, he was a truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Terry; four daughters, Brenda Champoux, Shelly Libey and Stacy Williams, all of Pullman, Wash., and Paula Todd of Pineville, Ore.; his parents, Howard Wayne and Joanne Bishop of Houston; and five grandchildren.
Services will be 7 p.m. today in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.
Frances B. Carter
Frances B. Carter, 78, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born April 21, 1922, in Madison Parish, La. A resident for 11 years, she was a pantry worker at the Riviera hotel-casino for 11 years.
She is survived by her husband, Gabe Green; four sons, Artis Lomax, Robert Nellums and Willie William Jr., all of Las Vegas, and Rosevelt Bankston of Seattle; two daughters, Ruby McCoy of Oklahoma City and Dorothy Jean Gibsons of San Bernardino, Calif.; many stepchildren; one sister, Virginia Polk of Las Vegas; one brother, Reid Bankston of Arkansas; 56 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Harrison-Ross Mortuaries, 2071 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Grace Immanuel Baptist Church, 805 W. Bartlett Ave. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
William R. Dewey Jr.
William R. Dewey Jr., 77, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born May 12, 1923, in Sayre, Pa. A resident for 11 years, he was a retired production manager in the missile/space industry, a World War II Navy Seabee, a member and treasurer of Navy Seabees Island XI, helped organize and participated in the Channel 10 telethon and volunteered on the Jerry Lewis Telethon when it was in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Emeline F.; one daughter, Pamela Sue Sobol of Las Vegas; and one son, Scott W. Dewey of Albuquerque, N.M.
Graveside services will be private. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Elbert 'Duke' Durden
Elbert "Duke" Durden, 62, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 23, 1937, in New Orleans. A resident for 43 years, he was a matchmaker/promoter in the boxing industry.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Renece Durden-Burrel and Consuella Durden, and one son, Mark Durden, all of Las Vegas; one sister, Lyris Durden-Russ of Los Angeles; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in rooms K and L at the Orleans hotel-casino. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling arrangements.

Dready Foster, 55, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 14, 1944, in Greenville, Miss. A resident for 18 years, he was a disabled Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Mable; one son, Michael Foster, four daughters, Doris Foster, Diane Foster, Debra Foster and Edna Foster, and his mother, Louise Foster, all of Las Vegas; six brothers, Leon Foster of Rome, Ga., Elliott Griffin of Greenville, Miss., Arthur Lee Foster of Lansing, Mich., James Collier of California and Tommy Collier and Jimmy Collier, both of Las Vegas; three sisters, Annette Moton and Loenetha Prince, both of Las Vegas, and Lilly Phillips of Greenville; and five grandchildren.

Fay M. Haller, 73, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Dec. 13, 1926, in New Jersey. A resident for four years, she was a bar owner and a member of Gamblers Anonymous.
She is survived by one son, Philip Krystel of Wellington, Fla.; one daughter, Deborah Konkle of Madera, Calif.; two sisters, Rita Ezor of Maplewood, N.J., and Ruth Labaff of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mitchell Howard Halpern, 33, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. He was born July 14, 1967, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 15 years, he was a gaming supervisor.
He is survived by one daughter, Maris Halpern of Las Vegas; his parents, Gail and Steven Halpern of Newport Beach, Calif.; one sister, Pamela Halpern-Chocen of Laguna Beach, Calif.; and his ex-wife, Maggie Harris of Las Vegas.

Ruby E. Handley
Ruby E. Handley, 88, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local care center. She was born July 17, 1912, in Rice Lake, Wis. A resident for six years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by four daughters, Gladys Fleming, Dixie Chenevert and Coreena Handley, all of Las Vegas, and Dorothy Christman of Nolanville, Texas; four sons, Harold Handley of Spokane, Wash., Thomas Handley and David Handley, both of Rapid City, S.D., and Patrick Handley of Glendale, Ariz.; two sisters, Marie Ray of Omaha, Neb., and Clara Loban of Rapid City; 28 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Jones.

Timothy Haney, 49, of Rachel died Monday in Rachel. He was born June 12, 1951, in Colorado. A resident for 16 years, he was an aircraft mechanic and an Army veteran.
He is survived by two brothers, Douglas Haney of California and Christopher Haney of Virginia.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Burial will be in California.
Gamion S. Holmes
Gamion S. Holmes, 4 months, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in North Las Vegas. He was born April 20, 2000, in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his mother, Georgia Holmes of North Las Vegas; his father, Tyrone James of Las Vegas; one brother, Elliott Holmes, two sisters, Tia Holmes and Tyra James, all of North Las Vegas; and his grandparents, Deloris Glossom, Elliott Holmes and Carol Dickson, all of Las Vegas.
Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m. until noon services Friday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.
Shontell L. Holmes
Shontell L. Holmes, 28, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 16, 1971, in Las Vegas. A resident for 27 years, she was a food server.
She is survived by one daughter, Tivonia, two sons, Martell and LaVianee, and her mother, Janice Webb, all of Las Vegas; her father, Larry Holmes of Mesquite; two sisters, Alisha Taylor and Valencia Holmes, three brothers, Randy Holmes, Bryan Holmes and Troy Holmes, all of Las Vegas; and her grandparents, Elnora Richard and John Davenport, all of Las Vegas.
Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 1 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Palm Memorial Park.

Joan Hortt, 73, of North Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 8, 1926, in Mesquite. A resident for 54 years, she was a retired church custodian.
She is survived by her husband, Lorin; two sons, Lawrence Dewey of Salem, Ore., and Perry Hortt of Henderson; one sister, Vera Woods, and one brother, John Lee, both of Mesquite; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Additional visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services Saturday in the Tonopah and Civic Center LDS chapel. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Mesquite Cemetery.

Eileen S. Johnson, 81, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. She was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Colorado. A resident for 11 years, she was a retired industrial engineer for an aviation firm, a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs.
She is survived by one son, Richard Johnson of Henderson; and one grandchild.

Wayne Kimura, 57, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 10, 1942, in Manzanar, Calif. A resident for 4 1/2 years, he was a hotel security officer and a Vietnam War Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Michie; one daughter, Stephanie Kimura of Bakersfield, Calif.; his mother, Michi Kimura, one sister, Joyce Kimura, and one brother, Glen Kimura, all of Long Beach, Calif.; and one grandchild.

James Paul Kinum Sr., 65, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Missouri. A resident for seven years, he was a limo driver and an Air Force veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Lori; one son, James Kinum Jr.; two daughters, Teri Kostiak and Tami Maneth; one brother, Glen Kinum Sr.; one sister, Carol Philler; and nine grandchildren.

Joyce Isabella Kovalevsky, 63, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospice. She was born Aug. 3, 1937, in Ohio. A resident for seven years, she was a registered nurse, 1996 Nevada Nurse of the Year, a member of the Nurse of the Year committee and Association for Professionals Infection Control and Epidemiology Inc.
She is survived by one son, Nikjon Kovalevsky; one daughter, Karen Kovalevsky-McAfee; her mother, Annabelle Davis; three brothers, Jerry Watson, Tom Watson and Jeff Watson; three sisters, Helen Jay, Barbara Watson and Deborah Wysong; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 5 p.m. today in Vencor Hospital, 5110 W. Sahara Ave. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Anthony Thomas LaPonte, 75, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born July 29, 1925, in Illinois. A resident for 18 years, he was a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Constance; two daughters, Gaylynn Montoya of Henderson and Pam Perez of Bakersfield, Calif.; two sons, Scott Luks of Henderson and John M. Bell of Bakersfield; two brothers, John Luks Jr. of Okemos, Mich., and James Luks of Mason, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren.

Mathews, all of Las Vegas, and Alexis Mathews of San Bernardino, Calif.; and his grandparents, Ada Roby, Robbie Robinson and Eddie Tolliver, and his great-grandparents, Ora D. Roby, Winnie Williams and Tressie L. Mathews, all of Las Vegas.

John Serfustini Sr., 79, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. He was born July 24, 1921, in Buffalo, N.Y. A resident for seven years, he was a movie distributor, a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Variety Club.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Gunn of Irving, Texas, and Teri Riley of Estero, Fla.; one son, John Serfustinni Jr. of Price, Utah; one brother, Leonard Serfustini of Henderson; and four grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Norty; one daughter, Wendy Anderson, and one son, William Anderson, both of Schaumburg, Ill.; and one grandchild.

She is survived by one son, Carl Weinstein, and one daughter, Susan Bell, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Pearl Lubell of New Jersey; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
