The state Taxation Department reported Tuesday the 2 percent sales tax that goes to state government yielded $598.4 million in the fiscal year that ended June 30. That's a 5.7 percent increase for the 12-month period.
The 5.7 percent increase for the last fiscal year was down compared to 1999, when sales tax collections grew by 10.4 percent. This was because of a decline in construction of big resorts in Clark County.
Clark County merchants posted a 6.6 percent increase in taxable sales for the fiscal year that ended June 30th.
The department said that taxable sales statewide in June, the final month of the fiscal year, rose to $2.7 billion, up 3.7 percent.
Clark Count June sales grew 5.5 percent to $1.9 billion.
