Races take to the air, despite legal struggle

Washoe District Judge Peter Breen said parties in the suit have agreed to a hearing in December or January rather than rush the issue.
Qualifying runs for the annual event at Stead Airport begin Sept. 9. Races take place Sept. 14-17.
The suit filed by Stead resident Calvin Williams and his 5-year-old son, Ivan, asks that the races be stopped until the safety of nearby residents can be ensured.
During last year's race, one plane crashed into nearby yards, including the Williams'. The pilot was killed, but no one on the ground was hurt.
