Editorial: Straight talk needs accompanying action

Gov. Kenny Guinn said last week that the bad reputation of the state's educational system hinders his ability to bring new firms here. "There is a lot of work for Nevada to do before I can truly stand before a major company, Fortune 500 executives, small businesses and say, 'Relocate -- relocate your business to Nevada,' " Guinn said.
Guinn's candor is refreshing since officials usually don't acknowledge weak areas. Still, the governor has to do more as well. While Guinn's Millennium Scholarship program will allow more students to attend Nevada colleges, he must deliver a long-term strategy that ensures this state's public schools are getting the resources they need so they can provide a decent education.
