Program serves kids in low-income families
The Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County will hold a recruitment carnival for low-income pregnant women and those with children up to 5 years old 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Vons Grocery, 1061 W. Owens Ave.
EOB serves these children through home-based programs and 16 early education facilities. For more information, call 387-5579 or 647-2602.
CCSN to host show on Saturday
The City of Lights Chorus of the Las Vegas Metro barbershop harmony chapter will present "Back in the Old Routine," its annual show, 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Nicholas Horn Theater on the Community College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.
The show will feature songs made popular by entertainers who helped make Las Vegas what it is.
Tickets, priced at $25 for VIP seating, $15 for general admission and $12 for seniors and students, can be purchased on the night of the show or by calling 563-2272. For more information, call 395-7329.
Henderson offers new recreation center
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will celebrate the opening of the Whitney Ranch Recreation/Aquatic Complex with a dedication ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 1575 Galleria Drive.
Grand opening festivities begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. The opening will culminate with a fireworks display at dusk.
The celebration will feature food concessions staffed by the Thurman White Middle School student council; free games, raffles and drawings hosted by the Henderson Boys and Girls Club; and activities and demonstrations to acquaint residents with the new facility's programming.

Dance will serve as a fund-raiser
Help raise funds to save pets from euthanasia in Las Vegas by attending the Fabulous Flashback to the '50s dance at 7 p.m. Saturday at Chancellor Gardens, 2620 Lake Sahara Drive.
The evening includes hors d'oeuvres, dinner, dancing, prizes and a no-host bar.
The event will raise funds for animal rescues, fostering, veterinary care and off-site adoption programs.
This program is hosted by Media Partners for Pets and sponsored by Chancellor Gardens, Land Rover West Sahara, and KJUL 104.3-F.
Tickets are $25 per person and need to be purchased in advance through Media Partners for Pets by calling 617-3323 or at Chancellor Gardens.
Charity golf
The Young Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Nevada is hosting a charity golf tournament 6:30 a.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas National Golf Club, 1911 E. Desert Inn Road. For more information, call Steve 966-5200 or Stephen Lewis at 341-7870.
Junior League
The Junior League of Las Vegas is accepting membership applications through Aug. 31. The organization focuses on community involvement and services. Call the league office at 822-6536 for a membership application.
