Two found slain in Henderson apartment
Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000 | 11:30 a.m.
Henderson Police found two men slain inside an apartment this morning after officers went to the home where neighbors had reported a loud fight.
Neighbors called police about 8 a.m. saying noise that sounded like a fight was coming from one of the apartments in the 500 block of Eiger Way on the corner of Sunset Road.
"We found two dead men inside, and one of them appears to be the occupant of the residence," Henderson Police Capt. Richard Perkins said. "We believe that some people fled the scene. A black (Chevrolet) Camaro was seen leaving the area."
The apartment had obvious signs there was a struggle when officers entered, he said.
Both bodies showed wounds, but police this morning were trying to determine whether the men were beaten to death, stabbed or shot. Neighbors didn't report hearing gunshots, police said.
Police were trying to identify the men this morning, but Perkins said one of the slain men matched the description of the person who signed the lease for the apartment.
Police found a car similar to one seen leaving the apartment complex and were trying to determine if it is related to the slayings.
Police also are trying to determine a motive. Neighbors told police there has been a lot of people coming and going from the apartment in recent months, Perkins said.
Detectives are checking police records to determine if complaints have been filed about the apartment's residents or if officers were ever called to the apartment, Perkins said.
The slayings are the second double homicide in Henderson this year.
On March 3 Henderson Police were called to the Whitney Ranch Center on Stephanie Street for a robbery of two armored car guards in front of the Ross Dress for Less store that turned deadly.
The armored car heist that escalated into a shootout left Armored Transport of Nevada guards Richard F. Sosa, 47, and Gary Dean Prestidge II, 23, dead in the parking lot of a Henderson shopping center.
Jose Vigoa, 40, and Oscar Cisneros Sanchez, 23, are suspected, but not yet charged in the shooting deaths of the armored car guards. Vigoa and Sanchez are being held without bond in the Clark County jail, charged in a Bellagio hotel-casino robbery and suspected of a string of casino and armored car holdups dating back several years.
