Governor names Maddox to replace Fondi on bench

Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000 | 9:35 a.m.

Guinn chose Maddox over District Attorney Noel Waters and Reno lawyer James Shewan. All three had been recommended by the state Judicial Selection Commission following a review of several applicants.

"Bill Maddox is one of our state's most dedicated and hardworking attorneys and I'm very pleased to be able to appoint someone of his experience and integrity," Guinn said.

Maddox, who was Carson's district attorney before his stint as Nevada's U.S. attorney, has practiced law for more than 20 years.

Fondi announced in June that he was retiring after more than 23 years as a district court judge and a total of 37 years of public service.

Prior to serving as a judge, Fondi was Carson's district attorney and, before that, part of former Gov. Grant Sawyer's administration.
