Deadly spot on Pyramid Highway will get guard rails

Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000 | 4:55 a.m.

The commission said in July it could not force the transportation department to build a guardrail separating northbound and southbound lanes in the area north of Sparks

But at a commission meeting on Friday, both groups appeared to reach a compromise on building a 1,500-foot guardrail for the spot.

The head of the transportation department suggested that Washoe County ante half of the estimated $250,000 cost for the guardrail out of the $102 million the state will spend in Washoe County next year.

Transportation Chairman Tom Stephens said his agency might come up with the other half. But he added that the state transportation board makes the final decision.
