Teen drowns in new Sparks marina
Monday, Aug. 21, 2000 | 11:17 a.m.
Witnesses said the 18-year-old boy was with a group of teen-agers when the other youths began calling for help.
Other swimmers and lifeguards immediately began searching for the youth, but it took the Washoe County Sheriff's department an hour and a specially trained dog to find his body in more than 30 feet of water at the converted gravel pit.
It was the first drowning since the marina opened for swimming in June.
The name of the victim wasn't immediately released.
