The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Nevada emergency managers nearly $3 million to prepare for emergencies from low-level nuclear waste shipments to the Nevada Test Site.
Clark, Nye, Lincoln, Esmeralda, White Pine and Elko counties are eligible to share the funds over three years. The first year's share is $340,000, said Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev.
Each county will receive $25,000 after Oct. 1.
