Retired executives pass on business tips
The Las Vegas Chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives will present its next "How to Really Start Your Own Business" workshop at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Foley Federal Building, 300 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Suite 1100.
SCORE counselors will cover marketing, cash flow, the business plan and a checklist for licensing, permits and other requirements.

Henderson recreation to offer Saturday class
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department and the Clark County Family and Youth Services Parenting Project will co-sponsor the "ABCs of Parenting" workshop 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St.
The workshop will focus on coping skills, problem-solving techniques and communication skills. Information will be provided about child development and positive behavior management skills.
Target age of children discussed is 5-10 years. All participants will receive certificates upon workshop completion. For more information, call 565-2121.
Here's a different kind of movie night
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two "Dive-In Movie and Family Fun Barbecue" events at local Henderson pools Aug. 24 at the BMI Outdoor Pool, 105 W. Basic Road, and Aug. 25 at the Wells Park Outdoor Pool, 1608 Moser Drive.
Movies begin at dusk. Admission to any of the all-ages events is $1.50 per person.
Henderson Swim and Trim passes will also be accepted as admission. Children must be accompanied by an adult (15 years of age or more).
Participants are asked to bring floats on which to sit and relax during the film. For more information, call 565-2123.
Celebrities to take part in program
The Las Vegas Chapter of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives is sponsoring "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Celebrity Fund-Raising" 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday in the South Tower conference room of the Golden Nugget.
The program will include speakers in the Las Vegas entertainment business: Ray Fell, star of Folies at the Tropicana for 20 years, who is currently with Tom Jones; Tom Pilkington, vice president of Entertainment at Caesars Palace and an active board member of many Las Vegas charities; Peter Reveen, illusionist, member of the international board of Variety Children's Charities, and Lance Burton's manager; and Julie Rossetti, director of development for the Andre Agassi Foundation.
Reservations are $20 for members and $25 for guests. Deadline is noon Tuesday. Call 450-1022.

Consumer Credit Counseling Service is offering the free class "Making Ends Meet and Dreams Come True," 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at 3650 S. Decatur Blvd., Suite 32. Methods to organize spending, reduce debt and build a brighter future will be covered. To register, call 364-0344.
