State panel gives extension to proposed casino on Bay of St. Louis
Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000 | 11:10 a.m.
The extension, granted Tuesday, means Europa Cruises Corp., the Florida-based firm proposing to build a new casino, must still present a complete proposal of what it plans for the site at Diamondhead near Interstate 10.
The site is near publicly owned tidal lands.
Europa's initially planned a luxury hotel and spa, a sports and entertainment center, more than 120,000 square feet of gaming space, a business conference center and an executive golf course.
The state commission renewed the permit for a second time. The company, Europa Cruises of Florida, was first permitted nearly five years ago. The casino has been held up by legal actions.
Europa Cruises said recently that it's selling its casino cruise vessels to finance the casino start-up in Hancock County.
The permitted proposal does not call for dredging, although opponents content dredging would be required at the casino site.
