Mall nears approval

The Desert Passage at Aladdin is expected to receive its temporary certificate of occupancy today from the Clark County Building Department, the final step in preparing the property for its scheduled opening Thursday.
The mall's fire safety testing is now "90 percent complete" following Tuesday's inspection, and county officials will return this afternoon to complete their inspection, said Rita Mincavage, public information officer for the building department. Mincavage said she expects the mall will receive authorization to open to the public sometime today.
That would leave only the casino floor awaiting approval from the building department to open. Mincavage said the fire safety testing for the casino area is expected to begin at 5 p.m. today.
Though Mincavage said these tests could continue into Thursday, she said the building department expects that Aladdin's casino area will receive approvals in time for its planned opening at 7 p.m. Thursday.
