Metro Police homicide detectives are searching for a suspect in the shooting death of a Las Vegas man at party early Sunday.
Detectives are looking for a man who goes by the name Peewee, and was last seen leaving the party in an apartment in the 3900 block of East Cheyenne Avenue at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police arrived at an apartment complex to find about 100 people gathered outside, and many of them were extremely emotional, Sgt. Kevin Manning said.
Officers calmed the crowd, and then found 18-year-old Samuel Reed with a gunshot wound in his chest. Detectives learned that Reed and the suspect had been involved in an ongoing dispute, and that they confronted each other at the party. Both men reportedly pulled handguns and exchanged shots, Manning said.
Reed was able to get inside an apartment before he collapsed to the floor and died.
Police are trying to determine Peewee's real name, and say that he is black, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 160 pounds with curled hair. He was last seen leaving the area in a dark blue Kia sedan.
Reed's death was the 63rd homicide so far this year in Metro's jurisdiction compared with 64 at the same time last year.
Anyone with information on the suspect's real name and whereabouts is asked to call homicide detectives at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
