Bus service connects Reno and Carson City

CARSON CITY, Nev. - There's something new on U.S. 395 between Reno and Carson City and, for once, it's not construction.
Public Rural Ride, or PRIDE, is a publicly supported bus service that hopes to tap into the market of 4,000 people who commute daily between the two cities.
It started Monday, offering free service for the first two weeks in hopes of luring passengers.
As envisioned by the Washoe County Regional Transportation Commission, the Carson City Community Transportation and the Nevada Department of Transportation, the PRIDE buses will integrate seamlessly with Reno's existing Citifare service.
This means with transfers, people can travel by bus from Stead to the south end of Carson City. There are 10 daily trips, Monday through Friday.
Modern, 55-passenger buses operated by Carson City-based Frontier Tours will be used on the low-cost, subsidized system.
Plans are in the works to extend the system to the Minden-Gardnerville area, perhaps before the end of the year. In addition, service on Highway 50 east as far as Fallon is contemplated.
