Letter: Politicians lose interest in campaign finance

Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 | 9:17 a.m.

As we know there is so much money used by lobbyists to influence legislators to get things done in their favor. Campaign finances run counter to democratic principles. People with money get things done, whatever they want. The more it is allowed, the more democracy is hurt -- the government will become government by the rich for the rich. Those who succeed increase the value of their services and products to make up the money spent, and the people are the victims. Therefore it is important to restrict campaign finances for democracy to prevail.

It is noteworthy that McCain kept quiet about campaign finances during his speech at the GOP convention. Nobody knows the views of Gov. George W. Bush on this. Strange politics!

The GOP's most important program is Clinton bashing. The party prefers to keep a studied silence of the sustained prosperity of the nation during his tenure. The politicians who are beneficiaries, the givers and takers, prefer to keep quiet on campaign finances.
