Trials have Rebel flavor

Four current UNLV swimmers and one class-of-2000 alum are in Indianapolis this week to compete in the Olympic Trials.
The Rebel contingent includes sophomore Whitney Phelps (200 butterfly) of Baltimore, juniors David Schick (100 butterfly) of Tulsa, Okla., and Michael Short (50 freestyle) of San Jose, Calif., senior Garrett Wood of Green Valley High (50 freestyle) and former Olympic qualifier and 2000 graduate Bobby Middleton (100 breaststroke) of Cathedral City, Calif.
Middleton advanced to the semis on Thursday and finished 14th.
Several international members of the UNLV swimming program already have qualified for the Olympics. They are: Lorena Diaconescu (Romania), Jacint Simon (Hungary), Andrew Livingston (Puerto Rico) and alumnus Mike Mintenko (Canada).
