Letter: Who speaks with forked tongue?
Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 | 9:48 a.m.
I take exception to the Aug. 6 letter written by W. Roy Tucker. He warns us to beware of the Republicans.
George W. Bush has said the same thing that Al Gore and our current president have said, and that is that he will let science make the decision on the nuclear waste dump.
His next warning is that Dick Cheney voted against cop-killer bullets and "plastic guns," of which there are neither. There are no plastic guns. All guns have enough metal in them to be readily identified as a gun. In many cases Gore voted like Cheney. However, Cheney did not change his mind because he was running for national office.
And speaking of forked tongue: Our current president was horrified that Cheney had voted against freeing Nelson Mandela when 32 members of his own party concurred with Cheney and voted against releasing Mandela because the African National Congress was a front for the Communist Party, and they thought there were better ways to handle the situation.
In fact, Clinton was on the stump for an ex-senator in Florida who had voted the same way as Cheney. Now, Mr. Tucker, where is the forked tongue?
