Fight ends in fatal stabbing

A fight in a northwest Las Vegas house ended with one man dead and another in the Clark County Detention Center booked on murder charges Wednesday morning.

Stephen Capachietti, 21, of Melrose, Mass., is charged in the stabbing death of another man in a house in the 6400 block of Eagle Point Road near Rainbow Boulevard and Alexander Road.

The resident of the house saw a Metro Police officer on a traffic stop and told him that two friends were fighting inside his house. Police found one man dead from multiple stab wounds about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday and took Capachietti into custody, police said.

The resident told police the two men started fighting and when the altercation became more violent he went to get help. He was calling 911 at a nearby convenience store when he saw the officer on the traffic stop, police said.

The name of the slain man was not released this morning pending notification of his family.

The man's death is the 62nd homicide this year in Metro's jurisdiction, the same number at this time last year.
