More greenery planned for city

Boulder City residents can put down some roots on Oct. 21, proclaimed Community Planting Day by the City Council Tuesday night.

Damon Ohlerking, the town's urban forester, is poised to direct volunteers and city staff to plant 1,200 trees and 4,700 bushes along the southern side of U.S. 93 near Veterans Memorial Drive.

"I'd like the entrance to Boulder City to look clean and green," Councilman Joe Hardy said before the unanimous vote.

Old hangar to be movie set

An abandoned airport hangar will soon be housing a movie venture.

Councilmembers approved a yearlong lease agreement with Anna Maria Davis, manager of All Minds Directed Productions and Entertainment, for the filming of an independent movie to be titled "The Ink Spot Cafe."

Monthly rent was set at $5,000, and an option ensures the lease may be extended should the company want to pursue future projects.

Only Councilman Mike Pacini took the opportunity to offer his services for a cameo appearance in the production.

Filming is expected to begin in October.

Police to take over old library

The Boulder City Council approved a contract with H.S.A. Architects for design work that may soon transform the Boulder City Library into the community's new police department.

The $45,000 project won't begin this year, however, because a new library must first be built in Adams Boulevard Community Park next year.

City Manager John Sullard said the city has been considering moving the police department for years. Solid concrete walls make the renovation of the current building too costly, he said.
