Candidates being considered for president of the Community College of Southern Nevada has been narrowed to six.
A search committee made up of regents and advisors met Saturday in Las Vegas and afterwards announced the finalists for the job.
Three of the finalists are from Texas. They are Stephen C. Head, a chancellor at North Harris Montgomery Community College in Houston; Shirley A. Reed, president of South Texas Community College in McAllen; and Frank R. Vivelo, president of Wharton County Junior College.
Other finalists include Robert A. Anderson, president of Colorado Northwestern University in Rangely, Colo.; Deborah L. Floyd, an executive assistant to the chancellor at the University of Kentucky; and Diana Sloane, vice chancellor at Los Rios Community College in Sacramento.
We had a nearly impossible job narrowing our list of 12 highly qualified candidates down to six extraordinarily qualified candidates," said Regent Doug Seastrand, chairman of the presidential search committee.
"Each of these presidential hopefuls are among the best higher education has to offer."
Candidates will be interviewed by the search panel and introduced to community leaders during informal receptions planned next month.
Regents could make a final selection when they meet Oct. 19-20 in Fallon.
