Letter: Changes would give a boost to government
Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000 | 9 a.m.
I am for term limits. Representatives should serve two terms of two years. Senators should serve one term of six years. The president should serve a total of eight years. Four, six, eight and out of Washington.
Experience won't be a problem. There are plenty of bureaucrats in D.C. to help them learn the ropes. I don't know how we can get rid of the bureaucrats -- not to mention the lobbyists. Any ideas?
Another change. Let's knock off all government pensions. Local, state and national. Exclude G.I. pensions -- many of them are now using food stamps to survive. Sign up the rest on Social Security -- outside of IOUs the system is solvent. What a boost it would get when all these servants joined the system.
After all, these servants do work for us peons. Why should these servants receive more benefits than the people they serve?
