July 9: Strike Strip At Strip Hotels Today

Story: Barring unexpected last-minute negotiations, a crippling strike of 80 maintenance engineers in the seven hotels along the Strip will begin as of five o'clock this morning. Hope for a postponement of the walkout seemed very slim late last night, as officials met in a strike strategy meeting, which was ordered after the failure of negotiations with hotel representatives yesterday afternoon.

Business Agent Ernest Leupp said picket lines manned by members of the striking engineers will be set up around each of the hotels. The pickets, he said, will carry the banner of the AFL union, as well as the Central Labor Council, which has sanctioned the strike.
