Sept. 29: McCarran Dies.
Story: Pat McCarran is dead. The controversial silver-haired Senator who spent 22 years in Washington as a representative ot the State of Nevada succumbed last night to a coronary occlusion shortly after giving delivering a vigorous speech in support of his fellow Democrats. On his person were a box of nitroglycerine pills.
Dec. 3: McCarthy Censured On 2 Counts
Story: The Senate voted official condemnation of Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy's conduct on two counts yesterday by a 67-22 vote, but refused to censure him for a "denunciation" of Brig. Gen. W. Ralph Zwicker. In a tense, hushed finale to weeks and months of blazing controversy, the Senate declared:
1. The Wisconsin Republican's failure to help a 1951-52 investigating subcommittee, and his "abuse" of the of the group's members are "condemned" on the ground they obstructed "the constitutional processes of the Senate."
2. McCarthy's "Communist hand-maiden" and other charges against the Watkins committee, which recommended censure for him, likewise are "herby condemned."
Sept. 16: Live Television Arrives In Vegas Via Microwave
Story: Microwave network television came to Las Vegas a week ahead of schedule last night, and caught everyone by surprise, including the operators of the KLAS-TV television station. Don Graves, director of production for the local station, said he received first notification that his station was joining the network at 6:28 p.m. CBS officials telephoned from Los Angeles and informed him the network was officially opening at 7 p.m., only a half-hour later.
At 7 p.m., KLAS-TV broadcast to local viewers the "Best of Broadway" show starring Frederich March and Helen Hayes, which was being broadcast "live" from New York.
Sept. 18: Marciano Knocks Out Charles In Eighth

July 9: Strike Strip At Strip Hotels Today
Story: Barring unexpected last-minute negotiations, a crippling strike of 80 maintenance engineers in the seven hotels along the Strip will begin as of five o'clock this morning. Hope for a postponement of the walkout seemed very slim late last night, as officials met in a strike strategy meeting, which was ordered after the failure of negotiations with hotel representatives yesterday afternoon.
Business Agent Ernest Leupp said picket lines manned by members of the striking engineers will be set up around each of the hotels. The pickets, he said, will carry the banner of the AFL union, as well as the Central Labor Council, which has sanctioned the strike.
