Review finds no problems with census

The U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday said a detailed review of operations at the Las Vegas census office showed no problems in the once-a-decade count.

"Our review confirms our judgment that we have a good census -- in Las Vegas and across the nation," bureau director Kenneth Prewitt said.

Rep. Dan Miller, R-Fla., had charged that census operations in Las Vegas and 14 other areas around the country were rushed and could be tainted by fraud. The count is used to apportion political representation and federal funding.

The internal bureau review chalked up Las Vegas' earlier-than-average completion of door-to-door work to extensive preparation and an early start.

"All our indicators show we are on track to a good census in Las Vegas," Prewitt said. "We have extensive quality assurance procedures to locate and correct any problems."
