NLV council approves new fire station

North Las Vegas will have a new fire station in 24 months at the corner of Ann Road and Allen Lane.
The council approved a development agreement and a zoning change Wednesday that will allow a developer to build the fire station as part of its new development.
The council will zone 20 acres from low density residential to commercial and office as part of the 54-acre project.
The new fire station is desperately needed, because the city has only one fire station to serve all of the northwest.
To help cut down on response times, the council also approved the purchase of a second fire rescue vehicle for $175,000.
Avante Homes gave the city a $175,000 check for the rescue truck last month to avoid installing fire sprinklers in its new housing development.
In 1998 the council adopted an ordinance that requires all new developers to install fire sprinklers in single-family homes or come up with another option.
It is expected to take six months to order and receive the unit.
