New rate increase sought

Nevada Power Co. is seeking a 1.3 percent increase in electric power rates for Southern Nevada residents to compensate for higher fuel costs the company faces.
The company received permission to seek monthly fuel and purchased-power rate increases in a settlement approved July 20 by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.
The increase, which comes on the heels of a 4.7 percent increase that took effect Tuesday, would raise the average residential consumer's bill by $1.05 a month. It's the first opportunity Nevada Power had to seek a fuel cost rate increase.
It's likely Nevada Power will seek another rate increase in September.
