Boulevard to host fair this weekend

The 12th annual Back to School Fair, co-sponsored by the Clark County School District, the Boulevard mall and KVBC Channel 3, will be held 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at the Boulevard.

School district staff will be available to answer questions regarding zoning, registration requirements, busing, new construction and special programs.

More than 30 additional participants, such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Las Vegas Parks and Recreation and Clark County Parks and Recreation will offer information on after-school and school break activities for children and families. UNLV and the Community College of Southern Nevada will provide registration information, and representatives of the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program will also be available.

The attorney general's Missing Children's Clearinghouse will fingerprint children free of charge 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.

The Clark County Health District will provide free immunizations. Parents are asked to bring a copy of their child's shot record. The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will be available to provide library cards for children and adults.

St. Rose Urgent Care units to offer physicals

A Teddy Bear Clinic will be offered 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose UrgentCare, 100 N. Green Valley Parkway.

The clinic will be repeated 9:30-11:30 a.m. Aug. 10 at the St. Rose UrgentCare in the Hartwell Medical Center, 1776 Warm Springs Road. Preschool and kindergarten physicals will be available for $25. No immunizations will be given, and walk-ins are welcome.

St. Rose Dominican Hospital will offer school physicals for $25 to children of all ages noon-5 p.m throughout August. No appointment is necessary. For more information, call 914-7110 or 914-7100.

HIPPY Fair scheduled at Matt Kelly School

The Nevada Parent Information and Resource Center is going to host the Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngsters Summer Health Fair 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at Matt Kelly Elementary School, 1900 N. J St. Admission is free.

The HIPPY Summer Fair will include free HIV testing and free vaccinations for all ages, courtesy of the Clark County Health Department; information booths; free refreshments and food; and other activities. For more information, call 648-1885.

NARFE meeting

The National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 423, will meet at 1:15 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Charleston Height Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St. Rep. Archeology in China

The Golden Age of Archeology in China will be the subject of a lecture and slide show 1 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Clark County Library. Sponsored by the U.S. China Peoples' Friendship Association of Las Vegas, the program will focus on an exhibit that has been shown at the Smithsonian Institution and is currently at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. Cake for peanut butter

The Super Summer Theatre Production of "Fiddler on the Roof" will be offering a slice of cake Wednesday at the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park in exchange for the donation of a jar of peanut butter for the Salvation Army's Emergency Food Bank. For more information, call 870-4430.

Group provides help for parents

Resolve through Sharing Bereavement Services offers support to parents who lose a baby during pregnancy or soon after birth by providing certified grief counselors who offer emotional and spiritual support, answer questions and provide guidance.

Its free support group meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday each month in the Rendezvous Room at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, 3186 S. Maryland Parkway.

Las Vegas organization names new officers

Soroptomist International of Greater Las Vegas, part of a worldwide organization for women, installed its 2000-01 officers last month.

New officers are Lexy Shabet, president; Christine Worrell, president-elect; Claire Kurlinski, vice president; Barbara Agonia, recording secretary; Trude McMahan, treasurer; Kathy Speck, immediate past president; Stella Butterfield, director; Christine Bodo, two-year delegate, and Catherine Bellver, one-year delegate.
