Businesswoman sues over repeatedly being left out of Vegas phone book

Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000 | 11:07 a.m.

A Las Vegas provider of sign language interpreters sued R.H. Donnelley Inc., alleging the directory publisher repeatedly failed for the past three years to list the company's business in its directory, Sprint First Source Phone Book.

Mary Philips doing business as Sign Language Solutions sued R.H. Donnelley of Purchase, N.Y., which jointly publishes the directory with Sprint Publishing & Advertising Inc., and Sprint Inc. in Clark County District Court, alleging her business was hindered because her clients weren't able to locate a phone number for her company.

Philips alleged she was entitled to a free listing in the directory beginning in July 1997 after she established telephone service with Sprint.

The suit, which said Donnelley continued to publish Philips' competitors' listings in its directory, alleged Donnelley again failed to list her business in the following publication despite having acknowledged its oversight in an August 1997 letter to Philips.

Donnelley officials couldn't be reached for comment.
