Sprint officials meet with police over murder warrant

Sprint officials met with police officers Monday to discuss the company's refusal to give detectives the work location of an employee wanted on a murder warrant.
"Basically we've asked local law enforcement -- Metro, North Las Vegas, Henderson, FBI and Boulder City -- to help us design a process that works for them and us," said Rob McCoy, a Sprint spokesman.
The meeting came after Criminal Apprehension Team detectives went to Sprint on July 6 with a warrant charging Charles Ramon Simon with murder and seeking his job site location from telephone company officials, but were refused the information.
At the time McCoy said it was company policy to verify employment but not give out a work location.
A day later, detectives were able to find Simon through an address listed for him on a previous domestic violence arrest.
Simon is accused of the June 10 shooting death of his brother, Gregory Simon, who was found dead June 10 in the back yard of a home in the 1200 block of Hassell Avenue, near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Washington Avenue. Gregory Simon lived next door to the home where he was found slain.
Residents reported hearing gunshots the night before Gregory Simon was found dead, police said. There were reports that Gregory Simon had a dispute with another man that night, police said.
The phone company's decision frustrated police who said that in the past they had a good working relationship with Sprint.
After Monday's meeting, Metro Capt. Terry Mayo said he was pleased with talks with Sprint and the reshaping of their policy.
"I think we won't have any future problems in that regard," Mayo said.
McCoy said Sprint officials set a deadline of 30 days to put the new policy in place.
Charles Simon is on leave with pay from Sprint pending the resolution of his case, McCoy said. Simon has a preliminary hearing on the charges set for Sept. 4 in Justice Court.
