Former gambling parlor owner charged with possession of machines in South Carolina
Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000 | 9:37 a.m.
Dion Pierre Moore, 39, was arrested Monday afternoon and released on a $2,000 bond.
Arrest warrants show that Moore had parts and two machines in his garage when deputies went to the home based on a tip. Moore was not there, but his son allowed deputies into the garage, according to police reports.
Moore, who owned Goldrush in Fort Mill, was York County coordinator for a pro-video gambling organization that was working to sway voters to approve the payouts from the machines in a referendum. That vote was struck down by the state Supreme Court, but the part of the law banning the games as of July 1 was left intact.
The law made it illegal to operate or possess video gambling machines anywhere in the state.
