Free tournament at Whitney Ranch

A free checkers tournament is set for 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Whitney Ranch Satellite Center, 1661 Galleria Drive. The event is open to youths ages 6-12, who will receive certificates for their participation. The event is part of the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department's "Let the Games Begin" series, which features a different board-game tournament each month. For more information, call 450-5885.

Donations sought throughout August

During August customers can donate food to Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada through Raley's "Food for Families" project. Customers can make a cash contribution in a canister at check stands or ask the checker to add $1 or more to the grocery total. For more information, call Sharon Mann at 385-2662 or 385-1176.

First Gift of Life walk on Saturday

The National Kidney Foundation of Nevada will have its first Gift of Life Walk Saturday. Registration is at 6:30 a.m. and the event starts at 8.

Serious athletes and recreational walkers are encouraged to participate in either the 3.1-mile run or the 1-mile fun walk. The goals of the walk are to increase public awareness regarding kidney disease and organ donation and to raise money for the National Kidney Foundation of Nevada.

Cashman Center to host eighth annual event

The eighth annual KLUC and Wells Fargo "As they Grow Family Expo," will be held 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at Cashman Center.

The event is free and features more than 100 booths and displays focusing on babies and families.

There will be entertainment throughout the day, including a diaper derby at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. for babies from 6 months old to 1 year old. For more information, call 889-7343.

'Going Home' performance set

The West Las Vegas Arts Center's annual Performing and Visual Arts Camp will present a performance of "Going Home" 2 p.m. Saturday in the West Las Vegas Library Theater, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Admission is free.

It is the culmination of classes children in the camp ages 10 to 15 have been taking since June 14. The camp was presented by the Cultural and Community Affairs Division of the City of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services. For more information, call 229-4800.

St. Rose Dominican hosting ADD/ADHD class

St. Rose Dominican Hospital is holding a class, "ADD/ADHD -- Attention Deficit," 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Barbara Greenspun WomensCare Center of Excellence, 100 N. Green Valley Parkway, Suite No. 330. Pre-registration is required. For more information, call 914-7060.
