Smoke may bring more fires

It's hot.
And it's hazy.
The heat helps trap smoke from distant fires - mostly in California. But the conditions are ripe for thunderstorms that could put those far-away fires right next door.
Nevada Division of Forestry spokesman Steve Frady said the heat and the lack of humidity have left the area ripe for wildland fires.
Compared with other areas in the state, western Nevada has been lucky in having minimal brush fires so far this summer.
Frady urged people who live in forests or brush to clear dead and dying vegetation for 30 feet around their homes and to make sure there's no living vegetation that would form a line to allow fire to advance from brush or timber to a home.
He says that when flames are pushing toward your home, it's too late to start whacking weeds.
