Police make demands for Hot August Nights

Police Chief Jerry Hoover calls that "ludicrous."
He said he doesn't even think he has the authority to do what they want.
Hoover said he'll cancel ordering people in and will juggle schedules to assure adequate police coverage during the event. And he added he has plenty of volunteers.
The disgruntled police have filed a grievance and Hoover says that while that is being arbitrated, the volunteers will get the normal time-and-a-half for working extra hours.
The Reno Police Protective Association fought a similar battle last year and won, when an arbitrator granted their request for the equivalent of holiday pay for working their days off.
The arbitrator ordered the two sides to negotiate the overtime terms for this year, which resulted in the second grievance.
