Police said Juan Alonso Rangel-Acosta, 18, was shot with a handgun late Friday night outside the Inn Cal motel on North McCarran Boulevard.
The shooting occurred after the victim was confronted by several young men and an argument erupted. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Sgt. Ken Lightfoot said the suspect also may have gang ties, but it's unknown if the shooting is gang-related. A motive hasn't been determined.
Investigators are seeking the public's assistance in locating a vehicle that was seen leaving the area. It might be an older-model Mercury Cougar, they said.
