Friday, April 28, 2000 | 12:20 p.m.
Two people were killed this morning when a small, private plane crashed near a runway at North Las Vegas Airport.
North Las Vegas Police confirmed the deaths this morning at about 10:30, following the crash that took place about 9:45 on airport property near Decatur Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue.
Police said the pilot had aborted one landing and was attempting to make a second in heavy winds when the plane was apparently blown off course.
The plane, which appeared to have sustained fire damage, was destroyed. Police had no details on the victims this morning.
Today's crash was the fourth in the area of the airport in the past year. Last August two separate crashes occurred within nine days.
Two people were killed in an Aug. 20 crash into the front yard of a northwest Las Vegas home. The second plane crashed Aug. 29 in a vacant lot while on approach to the airport.
In May 1999 a small plane crashed on Cheyenne Avenue near the airport.
