Letter: Cheap shot not a surprise
Friday, April 28, 2000 | 11:26 a.m.
Biggest laugh of the Vegas 300 race report: Wasn't that Eliseo Salazar whining about some girl driver who spun in front of him ("Give a girl a break," April 25)? And isn't this the same Salazar who was the designated torpedo (running cars off the track) at the Indy 500 in recent years? And so the pot calls the kettle "powder-puff."
Pulling the female/powder-puff card was a cheap, unwarranted shot. But you expect that from a gaggle of unknown, second-level drivers struggling in the morass of racing politics, sagging sponsorship, failing exposure, invisible fan support, internal confusion, questionable leadership and directions founded on a base of half-truths, backroom deals and old Indianapolis Motor Speedway family money.
How long can even the Unser name, the new (sorta) "Messiah," keep the glow on the Indy Racing League honey pot?
