Harrah's Entertainment Inc. of Las Vegas said its board of directors approved a 450-room expansion at Harrah's Atlantic City, increasing the hotel's capacity to more than 1,600 rooms.
The expansion, expected to cost $110 million, is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2002.
"Harrah's Atlantic City posted record revenues and cash flow -- up 8 percent and 22 percent respectively -- in the first quarter," said Phil Satre, Harrah's Entertainment chairman and chief executive. "Business has been so strong, in fact, that we need more rooms to accommodate demand from our overnight customers."
