99-degree temperature ties April record

Thursday's 99-degree high temperature for Las Vegas tied the all-time record for April, National Weather Service spokesman Brian Puis said today.
The old record was set on April 30, 1981.
For April 27, Thursday's heat broke the 97-degree reading set in 1992, Puis said.
The themometer has never officially hit 100 degrees in April during a century of weather watching for Southern Nevada.
"That record is safe for another year," Puis said.
He notedthat a cold front with winds gusting to 40 mph is expected to keep things cooler, around the mid 80s, until Sunday. Then the mercury will creep toward 90 degrees again.
