One of three Arkansas gambling petitions dropped

The campaign by the Arkansas Resort and Gaming Corp. of North Little Rock was one of three petition drives to put to voters in November proposals to legalize casino gambling in Arkansas.
The company proposed a state constitutional amendment to legalize charitable bingo statewide and to allow casino gambling in Carroll, Crittenden, Garland, Jefferson, Miller, Pulaski and Sebastian counties.
Putting a proposed amendment on the ballot would have required 70,701 signatures from registered voters by July 7.
The company's president, Charles Schnebelen of North Little Rock, said gathering and confirming the needed signatures proved "more expensive than we could afford."
Arkansas Casino Corp. is conducting a petition drive for a similar proposal, and Barry Emigh of North Little Rock is campaigning for a proposal for county or city referendums to legalize casino gambling.
