Volunteer group will hold public meeting
The Spring Mountains Association, a volunteer organization affiliated with the U.S. Forest Service in Las Vegas, is holding a public recreation summit 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m Saturday at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.
The Forest Service's draft national recreational agenda will be discussed. For more information, call 382-2721.
Spring luncheon scheduled on Monday
The Salvation Army women's auxiliary presents Caring Hearts, its spring luncheon and nearly new fashion show Monday at the Salvation Army Carlton E. Edwards Center, 2900 Palomino Lane.
The fund-raising luncheon is scheduled noon-1 p.m.; shopping for clothing and jewelry will be 11 a.m.-noon and 2-3 p.m. The donation is $15.
Net receipts will be used to refurbish the women's adult rehabilitation residence at 39 W. Owens Ave.

Silvestri Junior High to hold annual event
Charles A. Silvestri Junior High School will host its second annual spring festival 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
This year's theme is Shark-a-delic. Students will present a variety of entertainment both with performances and academic accomplishments. For more information, call Kelly Bucherie at 799-2240.
Celebration planned at county center
The El Dia de los Ninos celebration will be held 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater, 500 Grand Central Parkway.
The Day of the Child, a multicultural celebration focusing on all children, is traditionally celebrated in countries throughout Latin America.
The event will feature exhibits, games, activities, health screenings, immunizations and entertainment.

CCSN will host special town meeting
A town meeting sponsored by the Community College of Southern Nevada, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Nevada Space Grant Consortium will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at CCSN's West Charleston campus, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd.
A panel of senior NASA project managers and scientists will discuss the future of the U.S. space program.
Book arts
The Fiber Arts Guild will sponsor a free slide lecture "Evolution of a Book Artist" by Michael Jacobs 7 p.m. Friday at UNLV in the Flora Dungan Humanities Building. Call 254-5743.
Shadow puppets
A shadow puppetry workshop will be held noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the Whitney Ranch Satellite Center, at Galleria Drive and Patrick Lane in Henderson. The workshop is open to participates 13 and older. Enrollment is $15. Call 450-5885.
