$10 million high-rollers casino nearing completion

The MGM Grand hotel-casino plans to open "Mansion Casino," a new 8,000-square-foot high-end gaming area, by Memorial Day weekend, hotel officials said Wednesday.
Construction on the $10 million project, located near the entrance to the high-end "Mansions at MGM Grand" villas, began in January. Some of the new space came from the MGM Grand's sports book, which is also being remodeled as part of the Mansion Casino project.
Bill Hornbuckle, president of the hotel-casino, said the project was designed to make it more convenient for guests at the Mansions to access the high-end gaming area, and will assist the casino in its efforts to capture more of the high rollers' market. The casino will include 20 table games, including the MGM Grand's baccarat tables.
The MGM Grand's current high-end baccarat area will be converted to high-end slots.
Separately, the hotel-casino plans to reopen its main sports book by May 5, the day of the Kentucky Derby. The revamped book will have twice as many TV screens, private television sets and specialized booths for its customers.
