Shades of Honus Wagner: CCSN’s Joe hits 4 homers
Wednesday, April 26, 2000 | 9:43 a.m.
Making like Hall of Famer Honus Wagner, the Community College of Southern Nevada's Joe Wagner went 4-for-5 with four home runs and eight RBIs to lead the 16th-ranked Coyotes to a 16-5 hammering of seventh-ranked Dixie College Tuesday at St. George, Utah.
Wagner, who now has 11 home runs on the season, broke a couple of school records, including most home runs by one player in a game and most RBIs by one player in a game. CCSN broke a school record with six homers.
It was CCSN's first victory over a nationally ranked opponent.
Eddie Blubaugh was the only other Coyote with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two walks. Starting pitcher Nate Fouts (8-0) struck out eight in his six innings of work.
The Coyotes are enjoying a five-game winning streak, and second baseman John DiBetta has a 21-game hitting streak.
