Greenville casino, bank swap lawsuits over loan

Wednesday, April 26, 2000 | 2:35 a.m.

The lawsuit spawned rumors that Jubilee may be leaving Greenville.

George Bozier, a general manager with Jubilee, said Tuesday there is no truth to the rumors.

In November 1999, Credit Suisse First Boston Mortgage, a banking and securities firm, sued in federal court alleging Greenville Casino Partners had defaulted on loans totaling more than $51 million, plus interest.

Greenville Casino Partners operates the dockside Jubilee Casino, located at the Lake Ferguson waterfront, and had operated the Las Vegas Casino, closed since October 1998, but still dockside at the waterfront.

The city reportedly received amounts of some $30,000 a month for the lease.

Greenville Casino Partners also operates the nearby Greenville Inn & Suites and the nearby Key West Inn.

In February of this year, Greenville Casino Partners sued Credit Suisse for $500 million, accusing the bank of unfair terms in a 1997, multi-million dollar loan and wrongful intrusion in management and business activities.

"We have no real concerns with this," Bozier said. "We are open for business. We will not be closing. Our customers have nothing to worry about."
