Editorial: Police will target aggressive driving
Tuesday, April 25, 2000 | 9:26 a.m.
The Nevada Highway Patrol and Metro, Henderson and North Las Vegas police will each assign two officers to form a team that will once a week patrol valley intersections and roads that witness the most aggressive driving. This effort, aided by a $234,000 state grant, is welcome news since these reckless drivers cause accidents and road rage.
A report last year by a nonprofit transportation group confirms the severity of the problem, finding that the Las Vegas Valley ranked No. 6 among the nation's metro areas for aggressive driving. While more targeted enforcement will help, the bottom line is that motorists will have to drive responsibly all the time -- not just when the police are around -- if there is to be a real dent in reckless driving.
