Woman pleads guilty in fatal DUI

Monday, April 24, 2000 | 10:35 a.m.

A 33-year-old Las Vegas woman has pleaded guilty to two drunken driving counts in connection with a fatal 1998 accident.

Nancy Ann Oheron is scheduled to be sentenced by District Judge Donald Mosley on June 19 in the November 1998 deaths of Shane Bates, 24, and Amber Bates, 23.

According to police, Oheron was driving north on Durango Drive in the southbound lane when her car, traveling at more than 65 mph, struck a motorcycle ridden by the Bates. The motorcycle then crashed into the side of a Citizens Area Transit bus.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Gary Booker said Oheron's blood-alcohol content was 0.24, more than twice the legal limit.

At Oheron's change of plea hearing Friday, the sobbing woman told Mosley that she doesn't normally drink, but she was invited by friends to a happy hour with two-for-one drinks the day of the accident.
