Annual awards dinner planned at Stardust
Business Watch Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to crime prevention and public safety, is hosting its second annual award dinner and dance beginning with a silent auction and cocktail party at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Stardust hotel-casino to honor people in the community who have shown special attention to crime prevention or public safety.
Sheriff Jerry Keller will be the featured speaker. Steve Schorr, vice president of community affairs for Cox Communications, will be the emcee for the evening. For more information, call Carolyn Grant 889-1673.
Worker Memorial Day set for Thursday
The Las Vegas Interfaith Council for Worker Justice and the Nevada Carpenters Union are hosting their second annual Worker Memorial Day Interfaith Service 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at the Carpenters Union Hall, 501 N. Lamb Blvd.
The service will honor Nevada workers who have been injured or have lost their lives in work related accidents. Call Michael Slater at 866-6008.
Summer, autumn registration to begin
Registrations for summer and fall sessions at the Community College of Southern Nevada will open Thursday.
Returning students may enroll and pay for courses by telephone at 643-7026. New students should register in person at any campus. To contact admissions or financial aid offices, call the SmartLine at 650-CCSN.
Kids will get free trees at Henderson event
The Henderson Arbor Day celebration will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 Water St.
Local schoolchildren who attend the event will each receive a one-gallon tree to plant at home. The trees are being donated by Sunset Station.
Henderson's third celebration will include information about the importance of trees in an urban environment, tree plantings, tree-climbing demonstrations and dedications, and an Arbor Day play performed by students from Basic High School. For more information, call 566-2289.
Red Rock hike
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada and the Clark County Bar Association's Community Service Committee are sponsoring "Bigs" For-A-Day Red Rock Hike 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. For more information and a map call 259-8640.
Fund-raising event
Polish American Center Inc., a nonprofit organization, will host its major fund raising event at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Conference Center at the MGM Grand. Evening attire is required, and donation of $50 is requested. The event will include dinner, show, live music and dancing. Call 896-6058 or 263-8031.
Computer class
A primer in computer use will be offered free 6 p.m. Wednesday at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive. Call 633-1070.
Book art
The Fiber Arts Guild will present a two-day workshop -- Book Arts as Creative Correspondence, and Pop-up Books and Cards -- 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Lummis Elementary School in Summerlin. For more information and cost, call 656-2726.
