Letter: IRL-CART divorce final

Friday, April 21, 2000 | 10:31 a.m.

One thing Las Vegas Motor Speedway GM Chris Powell didn't mention as a drawing (card) for the IRL Las Vegas race ("IRL race lacks drawing power," April 13) is the fact this is the last race before the Indianapolis 500. He and the media really need to work on that angle. Even though CART has gone a long way in creating the perception that the Indy 500 has been diminished by their absence, that fact is Indy is just as exciting, competitive and prestigious as it has ever been.

I'm not sure the fans are going to start showing up for the IRL races until the media ... gets it in their heads that CART is not coming back to Indy and there just isn't going to be a union of the two series.

The IRL is a great little series. It is getting better all the time.
