Brazilian wins first phase of show jumping competition

Brazil's Rodrigo Pessoa, seeking his third straight World Cup horse show jumping title, rode Baloubet du Rouet to victory Thursday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in the first phase of World Cup 2000.
Pessoa, 28, who lives in Belgium, and the 11-year-old stallion cleared all 15 jumps on the course in 56.47 seconds.
Todd Minikus of Waxahachie, Fla., and his Belgian-bred stallion Oh Star was second with a fault-free trip in 58.51 seconds.
